Turmeric Salmon in Asian Herb Coconut Broth
Chef Judy Dempsey, The Hungry Planet, Perth
Wine suggestion:
- Pierre Sparr, Gewurztraminer, France, $16 (available at LCBO)
A medium bodied wine with aromas of tropical fruit, pear & honey. The light acidity of this wine enhances the Thai spices. A classic match with spicy & Asian foods.
Other wine suggestions:
- Vineland Estates Semi-Dry Riesling, Niagara ,
- One, Pierre Sparr, France (a blend of 5 aromatic grapes)
Venison Tenderloin with Rosemary Wheatbeer Reduction & Fresh Vegetables
Chef Joseph Thompson, The Swan at Carp
Wine suggestion:
-
Campo Viejo Rioja , Spain , $17 (available at LCBO)
Spanish wines are hidden gems! This garnet coloured wine is full of aromas and flavours of red cherries, plums, leather, vanilla and spices. A dry, medium-bodied with a silky and soft tannic finish. Ideal to enjoy with the earthy flavours of this venison dish as well as lamb, grilled mushrooms, veal, & pate.
Other wine suggestions:
- Chapoutier Cotes du Rhone Rasteau, France
- Ripasso from Italy (often come in via Vintages)
- Pinot Noir wines from France , Oregon or British Columbia
Beef & Shrimp Brochettes, with Grilled Vegetable Strata
Chef Julian Smith, Ironworks Pub, Almonte
Wine suggestion:
-
Agua Negra Shiraz , Argentina , $10 (available at LCBO)
Shiraz or Syrah is a popular grape variety whether from California, France, South Africa, Canada & Australia . This one from Argentina is a treat as we do not often get Argentinean wines at the LCBO. This wine is nice on its own, with heavy cheeses, roasted chicken, BBQed steak, lamb & pasta.
Other wine suggestions:
- Red Zinfandel from California (Cline Cellars, Ravenswood or Ernst & Gallo Wineries)
- Errazuriz Merlot, Chile
- Henry of Pelham Baco Noir, Niagara
